You can be surrounded by people and still feel like nobody really knows you.

Growing up is a wonderment in itself.

You know what you’re doing…

Yet somehow, you don’t.

One day, you’re confident about the path you’ve chosen. The next, you’re questioning whether it was ever the right one. You begin to see life differently. Sometimes through your own eyes, sometimes through someone else’s, and sometimes as if you’re standing outside your own life, watching it unfold like a stranger.

Maybe that’s what growing up really is: not finding answers, but learning to live with questions.

And somewhere between those questions, loneliness quietly finds its place.

Sometimes it acts like an adjective, describing your days without anyone noticing.

Sometimes it becomes a conjunction, connecting every emotion you feel with every thought you try to avoid.

Sometimes it sits like a preposition, always there, somewhere between who you were and who you’re trying to become.

And on some days…

It stops being a part of the sentence altogether.

It becomes the noun itself.

Loneliness.

Not because you don’t have people around you. But because there are parts of you that words can no longer explain. The voices around you never really stop.

Everyone has an opinion.

Everyone has expectations.

Everyone seems to know what the next step should be.

Yet somehow, all those voices begin to sound silent.

Not because they’ve disappeared.

But because your dreams have become louder.

Your responsibilities have become heavier.

Your fears have become more real.

You keep moving because that’s what adults do, don’t they?

You wake up.

You work.

You smile.

You meet deadlines.

You answer messages.

You keep sailing.

Even on the days when you have no idea where the shore is.

And that’s the strange part.

No one hands you a guidebook for growing up.

You’re expected to know what you’re doing, even when you’re figuring it out one mistake at a time.

You’re expected to have a plan.

To be ambitious, yet content.

To chase your dreams, yet stay practical.

To make everyone proud, yet somehow not lose yourself in the process.

It’s exhausting.

And sometimes you wonder…

Who decided these expectations in the first place?

Who decided there’s a timeline we all have to follow?

Who decided that being confused means you’re falling behind?

Maybe that’s why growing up feels lonely.

Not because you’re alone.

But because you’re constantly carrying conversations inside your own mind that no one else can hear.

Conversations about the life you imagined.

The life you’re living.

And the life you’re still hoping to create.

If you’ve ever felt like everyone else is moving while you’re standing still…

Or that you’ve drifted so far from the track that you don’t even know where you’re headed anymore…

You’re not alone.

Growing up isn’t a straight road.

It’s a constant unlearning, relearning, questioning and becoming.

Maybe none of us truly know what we’re doing.

Maybe we’re all just pretending a little less each day.

And perhaps that’s okay.

Because growing up was never about having all the answers.

It was about finding the courage to keep walking, even when the road feels lonely.

Thank you for reading. If this felt like a conversation you needed today, share it with someone who might need it too.
